Monument to the Latvian Riflemen in Ogre

Address Cemetery of the Brethren in Ogre
Description

In November 2008, in honour of the 90th anniversary of Latvian independence, a new monument was unveiled in the Ogre Brethren Cemetery. It was built according to the standard sketch of the architect Eižens Laube.

Even though the Ogre Brethren Cemetery is mainly associated with World War I, the 486 Soviet soldiers who died in World War II and were buried there, are also commemorated with their names on the memorial stones and the red granite slate. In the far corner of the cemetery, a memorial stone with a plaque and a Star of David represents the Ogre Jews killed during the German occupation in 1941.
